Tischfreuden Tablefun Tafelplezier

A couple of years ago I picked up a book called Tischfreuden at a secondhand bookshop. It is one of those books you buy and forget and one day pick up and wonder: why did I buy this? Well, it has a lot of pictures in it such as this Jungbrunnen from Lucas Cranach senior or junior. Tischfreuden gives a foodrelated quote for everyday of the year, yesterday - Mozarts birthday - about Mozart (The Truffle is the Mozart among the mushrooms, said Rossini), today an old proverb: Cheese and bread make cheeks red (Kaes und Brot macht Wangen rot). Nice for someone on a gluten- and dairyfree diet! Both make my cheeks very bleak.
The picture is more interesting. A medieval healthspa cum picknick in the field. Pictured more often, this promiscuus bathing and eating combination.
At the moment Frankfurt hosts an exposition of the collected works of Lucas Cranach senior. Closes 17 February. Must go there soon.
